It has
been quite an exciting semester! This class has been taught and set up in such
a way where I feel like I gained some real world knowledge, versus just book
knowledge. The experience I will probably always remember years from now is the
first set of five interviews with strangers. It was a rough project for me,
because I am naturally shy around new people. The weekend this project was due
I happened to be in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I pushed past my shyness within
the merry crowds, got the interviews done without fainting, and even met
someone in the fashion field! It really showed me what can happen when you put
yourself out there and are willing to be left hanging if necessary. In a way
this was also my most formative since it was the start of me being realizing I
am able to do more than I give myself credit for.
My most joyous experience was my
interviews with an entrepreneur. The gentlemen I interviewed is someone I have
looked up to and admired for a long time, and it was such a privilege to receive
his time, effort and advice. I truly enjoyed my interview with him! The other
joyous experience I had was actually an extra credit one; going to the Women’s Entrepreneurship
Symposium. I am an online student, so rarely get the interaction like that. Not
only that, the women were truly inspirational! It was well worth the long drive
to experience.
I am most proud of my elevator
pitch. I felt I nailed it the second round, and am very proud of my results. I
have always seen myself as an entrepreneur, but I feel more equipped to do
bigger things and be more successful now.
For
students in the future: read the assignments ahead of time by at least a week.
You will think you can wait until the last minute, and then one will sneak in
that requires some serious time and you’ll miss out on doing it. Do all of the
assignments! My biggest regret is the assignments I skipped because I missed
out on practicing that skill in a safe environment where I could fail and it
would not greatly affect me. Finally, the professor is a great resource…use
him. He is enthusiastic and available, as well as very knowledgeable.

ReplyDeleteZoe,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your last assignment! It is really crazy to think that we have made it through this class, and can in the end call ourselves entrepreneur's to some degree. It was rather curious to see how many people also said they wished they would have done all the assignments. I even said that in my post too! It would have helped to get experience from those assignments that had to do with speaking to strangers and making video recordings of them. It was also neat to see how everyone thought their elevator pitch was the best thing. Any who, check my post at: http://karinatamayo.blogspot.com/2016/04/final-reflection.html
Hey Zoe, I also thought the interviews were interesting, but I didn't find them quite as valuable as you. I found the unfair advantage exercise to be the most valuable. I didn't feel like I gained as much as you form my interview with an entrepreneur. I agree that future students should take as much advantage of our professor as possible. you should check out my final reflection http://imalsonotadoctor.blogspot.com/2016/04/final-reflection.html
ReplyDeleteHello Zoe,
ReplyDeleteIts funny because all of my peer reviews have mentioned that the interviews have been the hardest of all the assignments for this course. I most definitely agree, for some reason the thought of interviewing strangers was dreadful. i guess its the fact that we have to ask someone we don't fully know to give us a piece of their time for a class, I'm not too sure. I don't consider myself to by a shy person but the thought of these interviews where still dreadful. If you'd like to check out my blog you can go to the following link: http://ent3003img.blogspot.com
